Portuguese wine, perhaps to us in the UK, is quite misunderstood. Not many of us would opt for a bottle of something from a country that has been producing quality wine since Roman times,

One aspect of Portuguese wines that may confuse the average supermarket wine buyer is that many winemakers use indigenous grape varieties that we’ve never heard of. Furthermore, Portuguese winemakers are master blenders, ensuring real confusion for anyone wanting to pick up a bottle of Shiraz or Sauvignon Blanc.

However, many of us are missing out! In a country where the climate varies from cool and wet in the northern Vinho Verde region, to hot and dry in the southern Algarve, Portugal offers a real mix of red, white rosé and sparkling wines to suit any wine lover.
